About SAFE, Inc.

History

SAFE was founded in 1997 as a program of the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence with 1 advocate serving all survivors seeking assistance. In October 2006, SAFE separated from DCCADV and incorporated as an independent organization with five advocates and two Co-Executive Directors. Currently, SAFE employs 16 Advocates and two Co-Executive Directors and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  Our mission is to ensure domestic violence survivor safety and self-determination through emergency services, court advocacy and system reform. SAFE serves over 5,000 domestic violence victims in the DC Metro Area every year. Our foundation lies in the empowerment of all survivors through equal access to legal and social services as a human right.
